Our Story

Picture
Adriana Lopez - Founder
At Tostado Coffee Roasters, our story begins with Adriana Lopez, the founder of the company, whose journey started in Mexico City before she immigrated to Portland, Oregon. Her love for coffee blossomed when she enrolled in a coffee roasting class and learned the art of roasting on a simple popcorn machine. Fascinated by the process, she was eager to learn more about coffee.

During a trip back to Mexico in 2018, Adriana visited the coffee growing regions in Mexico and gathered samples to craft her roasts. This journey exposed her to the toil and dedication of coffee farmers, who often receive little reward for their hard work. Witnessing the complex labor required to produce a single cup of coffee, Adriana felt compelled to make a difference.

Thus, Tostado Coffee Roasters was born, with a mission to help farmers through Fairtrade sourcing, share Mexican culture, and provide support to indigenous communities, who predominantly operate these farms. In the beginning, Adriana sold her coffee to friends and family, gradually expanding to local farmers' markets in 2019. Further expanding to grocery stores, coffee shops and reaching a variety of communities throughout the Portland metropolitan area.
But Tostado's dedication to community support doesn't stop there. The retail bags of our coffee are adorned with handmade pompoms lovingly crafted by indigenous women, from the Tenejapa village in Chiapas, showcasing their artistry and culture. Moreover, a portion of our profits are donated to micro-producers in Chiapas, Oaxaca, and most recently Nayarit to support them with their coffee production practices.
We believe in positively impacting different areas of these communities’ lives, from food to education. To do our part in supporting these causes, Tostado also donates a share of profits from coffee sold at events and any tips received, ensuring that each cup of Tostado Coffee contributes to a greater purpose.

With every sip of Tostado Coffee, you not only indulge in the delicious Mexican coffee flavors but also become a part of a meaningful cause that celebrates culture, supports farmers, and uplifts indigenous communities. Join us in making a positive impact, one cup of coffee at a time.
